As they didn't receive a wildcard for the Tour de France, Colombia will have no racing in the month of July and as the Colombian national championships were held earlier this year, they will end the first part of their season in Tuesday's Giro dell'Appenninno. The team is lining up most of their A team and hope to bounce back after a poor showing in this weekend's Tour de Slovenie and Route du Sud.
Final fixture ahead of the “summer break” for Team Colombia: after competing in Slovenia and France, the Team is headed to the Giro dell’Appennino in Italy, looking to provide a strong display before travelling to Colombia to spend three weeks of training next to their families.
Sports Directors Valerio Tebaldi and Oliverio Rincon will field a very strong team, ready to climb up the ascents that will decide the Italian race, starting with the classic Passo della Bocchetta.
In his seventh start in this race, Miguel Angel Rubiano will rely on his experience on the 190 km distance from Novi Ligure to Genova, joined by Fabio Duarte, Robinson Chalapud and Jarlinson Pantano – just back from the Tour of Slovenia – Rodolfo Torres, Edward Diaz, Jonathan Paredes and Darwin Pantoja, who rode the Route du Sud along with Rubiano.
“We are just off a disappointing weekend, and we really want to ride a good Appennino ahead of the break,” Sports Director Valerio Tebaldi explained. “The final climb comes with 25 km to go, but the Giro dell’Appennino always gets decided on the uphill, and I expect the field to be strongly reduced on the Bocchetta Pass. We have several good climbers in the line-up, so hopefully we can get to the finale with some options.”
