When the Vuelta a Espana will reach Burgos for an individual time trial on September 9th, the Spanish Grand Tour will be heading into its third and final week, and setting up the decisive days for the red jersey in Madrid.
Earlier than that, Team Colombia-Coldeportes will travel to the Castilla y Leon region from August 4 to 8 for the Vuelta a Burgos, the final dress rehearsal of what the Escarabajos can expect from August 22nd to September 13th.
Five stages, the lumpy 1st and 3rd split by a team time trial, while the general classification will be shaped in the last two days, with the uphill finishes in Pineda de la Sierra and Lagunas de Neila.
Sports Directors Oscar Pellicioli and Marco Corti will field an 8-man line-up, whose riders are just back from several weeks of altitude training in Colombia. After his overall sixth place at the Route du Sud, in June, Miguel Angel Rubiano wishes to pick up from where he left.
Rodolfo Torres and Fabio Duarte will look to the uphill finishes to test their pedal stroke, while rounding out the line-up will be Leonardo Duque, Brayan Ramirez, Carlos Julian Quintero, Edward Diaz and Juan Pablo Valencia.
“The Vuelta a Burgos is an important preparation step, and one race we have fond memories of, like Esteban Chaves’ win in Lagunas de Neila in 2012,” Sports Director Oscar Pellicioli recalled. “The team comes off a month without racing, so we know that we will have to recover the racing pace day by day, but I expect our guys to put their altitude preparation to good use, and give some good signs for the Vuelta, particularly on the two uphill finishes.”
