Colombia have announced the signing of talented climber Brayan Steven Ramirez Chacon. The youngster will join Walter Pedraza, Alex Cano, Cayetano Sarmiento and Camilo Castiblanco in strengthening the team's roster for the mountains.
Team Colombia welcomes a new recruit: Brayan Steven Ramirez Chacon (Bogotà, November 20th, 1992), one of the brightest Colombian prospects, will join Alex Cano, Cayetano Sarmiento, Walter Pedraza, Camilo Castiblanco, Sebastian Molano and Carlos Mario Ramirez to become the 16th rider on the 2015 Team Colombia roster.
Coming from Movistar Team América, Ramirez – a 1.78 tall climber of 69 kg - conquered the gold medal at the 2010 Youth Olympic Gamesin in Singapore, and two years later – at just 20 years of age - he claimed a strong second place at the Colombian National Championships behind Felix Cardenas and ahead of former Team Colombia rider Darwin Atapuma.
Last season, Brayan Ramirez showed his talent, taking second at the Under 23 Colombian National Championships road race and finishing third in the time trial behind winner – and fellow Team Colombia newcomer – Carlos Mario Ramirez. In addition, he placed overall second at the Vuelta de la Juventud and was runner-up in the Panamerican Games road race.
Ramirez was selected for the Colombian National Team for the Tour de l’Avenir where he played an important role for Miguel Angel Lopez in the mountains, and took part in the World Championships in Ponferrada, launching a brave attack with three laps to go in the U23 race.
Brayan Ramirez strengthens Team Colombia’s line-up, but more is still to come: General Manager Claudio Corti is holding discussions with more athletes, including some riders from the 2014 Team Colombia roster.
