After taking a stage win and a top 10 in the GC of last year’s Tour de Langkawi (March 8th-15th), Team Colombia-Coldeportes returns at the start with high expectations, hoping to make an impact on the 2.HC race again. The team will rally around Rodolfo Torres, who has been in a very good shape since the beginning of the season, with four podiums so far. The 27-year-old will have his chance to shine in the penultimate stage, which should be decisive for the GC, as it will take the peloton to Genting Highlands, a 19,5 km long climb, with a 5,5% average gradient.
“I am feeling good, both in my legs and in my mind”, stated Torres, who will count on Edward Diaz, Daniel Martinez and Darwin Pantoja in the mountains. “We all expect the race to be decided on Genting Highland uphill finish, as usual, and I think we will be up for the challenge: fellow Colombian Josè Serpa explained me the climb, and I think we’ll find good terrain for us. We will definitely try to go for it.”
Not only the overall will be important for Colombia-Coldeportes, which will chase a stage win in the sprints, where young Sebastian Molano (making his debut in a 2.HC event) and Leonardo Duque are expected to be among the protagonists. For Duque, it will not be a new experience, as he raced here before and got a podium, one year ago, when he finished third in Pekan.
