Roberto Ferrari has been one of the most consistent sprinters in this year's Giro d'Italia and today he was again close to the best when he sprinted to fourth in the 10th stage of the race. The Italian lamented a small mistake in the finale that had seen stage winner Nacer Bouhanni gain a few metres.
Roberto Ferrari may still not have won a stage in this year's Giro d'Italia but the Italian deserves a price for his great consistency. Today he again finished just outside the podium in the 10th stage, adding a fourth place to the fourth, two fifth and the seventh places he already has.
Ferrari has no team to support him in the sprints but makes use of his excellent positioning skills in the hectic finales. Today he was again in the perfect position inside the final kilometre but the late crash caused him to open a small gap to Nacer Bouhanni and he never managed to recover the lost ground.
"Bouhanni is a very strong opponent," he said. "Today he again showed that he deserves the win. Today I believed in my chancees. I had studied the route carefully and I had focused my analyses on the finale as both the climb and the turns in Salsomaggiore Terme could be dangerous.
"I managed to avoid the crash, but then I lost a few metres and in these sprints, it is fatal to give Bouhanni a small advantage. I confirm, however, that I am always fighting for the top positions. I hope to find a way to get onto the podium in at least one stage."
