Having already created a junior team, Alberto Contador continues his dedicated effort to develop the next generation of professionals. Under the name of Alberto Contador-Specialized Foundation and with the direction of former Spanish national coach Jose Luis Dos Santos, the multiple grand tour champion will set up a U23 team in 2014.
In 2013, Alberto Contador committed himself to the development of talented young athletes when he created a junior team that made its debut in the season that has just come to an end. Expanding his project, the Spaniard has now decided to add a U23 team to his project, with the squad set to make its debut in 2014.
The team will be known as the Alberto Contador-Specialized Foundation and will be led by Jose Luis Dos Santos who has previously been in charge of the Spanish national team at the road world championships. As is reflected by the name, bike sponsor Specialized will be involved and offer its support to the project.
"This step completes our training project for young riders with the aim of making them grow without any pressure linked to their performances," Alberto's brother Fran who serves as the president of the Alberto Contador Foundation, said. "We will give them time to adapt to the U23 category and we will make them grow as athletes because our project is long-term. I want to thank the sponsors who have confirmed their valuable support to the foundation."
Contador himself will continue his professional career on Team Saxo Bank where he hopes to return to his former level after a disappointing 2013 season.
