Alberto Contador arrived in Bormio today to take part in the RHxDue, a popular cycling event including climbs like Gavia and Mortirolo. Tinkoff-Saxo’s captain announced during the presentation of the event that he intends to ride the Giro d’Italia 2015 even though he’s still awaiting details from the official presentation of the route after Giro di Lombardia.
“Since we’re here in Bormio at the foothills of legendary climbs such as Gavia, Mortirolo and Stelvio that I have enjoyed and suffered on in Giro d’Italia, I can say that I intend to ride the Giro in 2015. I’m still awaiting some details such as the route of the race but I have already spoken to Bjarne Riis and my coach and we have decided that my first goal of 2015 will be the Giro d’Italia”, says Alberto Contador at the press conference organized by Zero RH+, the official partner and provider of sun glasses for Tinkoff-Saxo and teams of the Alberto Contador Foundation.
Alberto Contador says that besides Giro d’Italia he will also aim to finish what he started by returning to Tour de France in 2015.
“I will come back to the Tour to win it. The Tour is the most important race of the season, so I’ll of course ride it if everything goes smoothly in my preparations. Aiming for both the Giro and the Tour is a great challenge and it really motivates me”, Alberto Contador adds.
The leader of Tinkoff-Saxo finishes by explaining that he sees the combination of the Giro and the Tour as the most likely for 2015.
“It’s most likely that I’ll do the Giro and Tour instead of all the three Grand Tours in the same season. We’ll have to see how 2015 unfolds and decide what’s possible”, Alberto Contador concludes.
