It is not unusual for the track schedule at the Olympics to undergo changes. Some disciplines are added to the list and some are removed. But the big news is that there may be mixed event for both emn and women in the future, according to UCI president Brian Cookson.

In early December, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) held its annual meeting in Monaco where they agreed that one of the objectives is to have more mixed competitions with 50% male and 50% female participation.

Cookson is open to the idea. "In Rio 2016, we are not going to change anything. In Tokyo 2020, however, the IOC President Bach would like a more attractive program on the track, with mixed races for males and females," he said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport. "For example, we could have a team pursuit or team sprint with two men and two women or a madison with a man and a woman."

"If the IOC feels that this would make cycling more attractive, we have to explore it. We have to consult with the international federations to find out what might work and what might not," he said a few days ago.
