Jérôme Coppel has announced his retirement from professional cycling. According to Le Dauphiné, the 30-year-old French time trial specialist will hang up his bike after the Tour de l'Ain (August 10-13). "My body and head do not follow each other anymore," says Coppel.

Coppel is known as a strong time trialist. In 2015 he was crowned national champion against the clock and won bronze at the World Championships in Richmond. He won Etoile of Bessèges twice (2012 and 2016) and the Tour du Doubs twice (2010 and 2012). Vuelta a Murcia and the Route Adélie de Vitre are also on his palmares.

In 2008 Coppel made his professional debut with Française des Jeux. After two years he moved to Saur-Sojasun. In 2013, Cofidis signed him, after which he joined IAM Cycling in 2015. The Swiss team will stop after this season and Coppel will do the same.
