Winner of the first stage, Bryan Coquard took the GC lead from the first day of the 61st edition of the Four Days of Dunkirk. Yesterday he lost the top position and so he hasd to settle for second behind Ignatas Konovalovas.
Today he ended his race with a second place behind Belgian Edward Theuns , with whom he was competing on the first day.
"In the finale, I was with Jimmy (Engoulvent), he did a great job," Coguard told L'Equipe. "He took the lead with 600 meters to go. I was in sixth or seventh position. I had to wait for a gap to open up. I came very fast and lost with a very small margin."
Regarding his final result, Bryan Coquard explained that he had been under "a lot of pressure" and had "given everything on the Cassel stage which cost me energy in this final sprint."
"These four days were grueling," he said after crossing the line.
On Friday, he will at the start of the Tour de Picardie (2.1) where he will compete be up against Arnaud Démare, Yauheni Hutarovich and Roy Jans.
In the final stage, his teammate Thomas Voeckler was on the attack.
"I never really believed in our chances but at least it allowed us not to chase for Bryan," he told L'Equipe. "I wanted to have a good hitout. Now I will recover, take a few days off and resume training when I feel ready. We must reflect on this first part of the season. I will return to competition in the Breton weekend (Grand Prix de Plumelec and Boucles de l'Aulne) in late May."
