The Europcar team will miss its sprinter for a few months. Bryan Coquard has decided to focus on the track in the build-up to the next Track World Championships which will take place in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines in February.
Coquard will briefly change the green Europcar jersey for the French tricolour jersey with a clear goal. It is not the omnium in which he won silver at the 2012 Olymics, as one might expect. Instead, he targets the madison with his partner and future teammate Thomas Boudat. The Olympic silver medalist told the French federation FCC that he wants to do track events in the month of December. However, he will still do a few races on the road and plans to start the Tour Down Under in Australia.
"I will do the madison and another race," he told ffc.fr about an upcoming race on the track in Ghent in the weeknd. "It is also possible that I will do a class 1 race as part of the World Cup in London in December and mayben even be part of the French team pursuit squad for the second World Cup."
"When I'm here and I do these races this winter, it is because I want to compete at the Worlds in France. That's what motivates me.
"I will do the Tour Down Under in Australia and with sports director Andy Flickinger, we have looked at the possibility of bringing a track bike because there are some class 1 races there. It will allow me to score points to qualify for the Worlds in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. I'll even do Fenioux Roubaix which will be held on the same day as Grand Prix of the Marseillaise that opens the Coupe de France.
"At the Worlds in France, I will focus on the madison and why not also do the points race, the scratch race and the team pursuit. It will not be a new experience for me as I have done this kind of event in the past, especially this year at the European Track Championships in Anadia in Portugal. We even did a time of 4.06. For a long time, a French team had not done such a time. I am certainly motivated for the 2015 Worlds. The Olympics? I don't know. That is far away. Now I focus on Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines."
