In recent months, the Europcar team has had lots of bad news. First, the main sponsor decided to withdraw at the end of the 2015 season. And this week the Uci decided not to grant the Vendeee team a WorldTour license. That decision has put the race schedules and ambitions up in the air, including the plans for sprinter Bryan Coquard.
A few weeks ago Bryan Coquard made it clear that he planned to do the Giro-Tour double but as the team no longer has a WorldTour license, Team Europcar is likely to miss out on invititations to several WorldTour races, including the Giro. In an interview with L'Equipe, the Frenchman talks about his fears.
"Europcar told us very early that do not plan to continue their partnership after 2015," he said. "This gave time for (Bernaudeau, manager, ed.). The real blow is the WorldTour license that we didn't receive. It really changes everything. I already had a schedule that allowed me to do the biggest races this season but now everything is up in the air. I am afraid that apart from the Tour de France, I won't be allowed to do another grand tour in 2015."
Inevitably, Bryan Coquard is forced to consider other options than to stay at Europcar.
"My contract ends at the end of the 2015 season and many managers know about the many bad news. am afraid that the team will stop permanently. I already have to think a little about my future. I have already received a lot of proposals and all must be investigated. I trust Jean-René, I hope he will find a solution for the team to continue in 2016."
