Magnus Cort defended the leader's jersey in today's stage of the Tour of Denmark but he failed to play a role in the final bunch sprint. The young Dane admitted that he had been too focused on his defence to be cool enough in the finale.

Magnus Cort continues to impress against the WorldTour riders. Having won yesterday's opening stage of the Tour of Denmark, he defended his lead in today's second stage.

However, the Dane failed to make an impact in the bunch sprint and finished back in 19th. Despite being pleased to have defended his position in the GC, he regretted that his focus on the jersey had cost him the chance to go for the stage win as he had spent some energy by joining a fruitless attack with GC rivals in the finale.

"It's crazy. This was my goal for today even though I would also have liked to contest the stage victory. I think I was a bit too focused on the yellow jersey on the final lap," he told CyclingQuotes.com at the finish.

"I would have been a bit more cool if I had not had the yellow jersey. I managed to follow the move but it cost some energy in the finale.

"In the sprint, I was sudddenly swamped and as I had started in seventh position, I was suddenly very far back. When a lot of riders passed be, I could easily see that I was too far back in the final turn.

"Tomorrow will be a differen stage. We will be more focused on the stage than the GC and it will be something else in Vejle. I don't think i can win that stage. The climb is a bit too steep and long for me."
