Le Méditerranéenne is a new 2.1 race on the UCI calendar for 2016 to be held from February 11-14. It consists of four stages, starting on the 11th in Banyoles (Catalonia) with a team time trial and finishing on the 14th in Bordighera (Italy) abd replaces the defunct Tour Méditerranéen. Several teams from the UCI WorldTour will be at the start.
The organizers of the race have created a new organizational structure with the hope of of maintaining and maybe even increasing the level of its now defunct predecessor.
For the first edition, they have designed a course with a distance of 557km over four stages. The start will be in Banyoles with a team time trial and the riders will pass through significant towns in the area of the French Mediterranean like Banyuls, Beziers, Cadolive, Pegomas, places in Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur before they reach the finish in Bordighera (Italy) at the Italian Riviera on the 14th of February. Bordighera will be the ideal scene for a grand finale of the first edition of the 2016 Le Mediterranéenne, with a street circuit close to the sea.
