Fabio Sabatini (Cannondale) sustained a fracture to two thoracic vertebras and a small cranial trauma. This is the result of the medical examinations he was subjected to after his crash in the third stage of USA Pro Cycling Challenge.
Sabatini was immediately carried to Steamboat Springs' hospital and subjected to X-ray examinations that pointed out the fractures. Yesterday morning he was also subjected to magnetic resonance that ascertained the vertebral injuries.
The Steamboat Springs' head physician of traumatology ward, in agreement with team doctor Roberto Corsetti and the rider, decided on a surgical intervention to make stable the fractures. Sabatini was moved to Denver hospital where will be operated by an expert doctor.
The time for his return to Italy and for the recovery has not been defined yet. However, the 2013 season is definitely over for Sabatini.
