Coming straigt from an overall podium in the World Ports Classic, Alexander Porsev had hoped to mix it up with the best in the first sprint in the Bayern Rundfahrt. A late crash took him out of contention and instead his teammate Alexey Tsatevich sprinted to 9th.
Russian rider of Team Katusha Alexey Tsatevich took 9th place in the massive sprint at the first stage of the 2.HC stage race Bayern Rundfahrt. Unfortunately, with 4 km to go there was a big crash where Russian Champion Vladimir Isaychev and Aleksandr Porsev, who took three podiums in his last races, were involved.
"Because of the rain the road was pretty slippery today. As a result, with 4 km to the finish line on the wet road was a crash in the peloton with Vladimir Isaychev and Aleksandr Porsev involved. Porsev was the rider we counted on in the sprint today. Alexey Tsatevich was able to avoid the crash, so he finished 9th. Fortunately both riders missed getting serious injures, only Aleksandr Porsev has a small injury of his left ring finger, but I hope tomorrow everything will be ok," said sports director of Team Katusha Dmitry Konyshev.
The first stage (201,6 km from Vilshofen to Freilassing) has ended with the bunch sprint, won by Heinrich Haussler from IAM Cyling, who outsprinted Yauheni Hutarovich from AG2R La Mondiale and Steele Van Hoff from Garmin Sharp.
Tomorrow will be held the second stage of the race – 164,7 km from Freilassing to Reit im Winkl Winklmoos-Alm with an uphill finish.
