After four years at the continental level, Joel Zangerle realized a dream when he turned pro with the pro continental Cult Energy team. In addition to gathering lots of experience, he was able to achieve some good results, especially in June.
Zangerle finished ninth at the Velothon in Wales (1.1), was 10th in a stage at the Tour de Luxembourg (2.HC) and finished fourth at the Luxembourg road race championships. "I have learned a lot and was able to develop myself as a cyclist," he told radsport-news.com.
A special event for the 27-year-old was his participation in the European Games in Baku. "It was an nice experience that has excited me. And it was also one of the toughest races I've ever done, " said Zangerle, who finished 32nd. The only negative experience was the Tour of Yorkshire, where he crashed heavily in the finale of the final stage. "I had to spend the subsequent night in the hospital," he said.
Whether Zangerle will again be professional in the coming season is uncertain. The merger of Cult Energy with the German Stölting team left no room for the allrounder so Zangerle needs to look for a new employer. "I'm currently waiting for responses from teams and still need a bit of patience, until I can make a decision," he explained.
