Damiano Cunego finished sixth in Milan-Turin after a race for real climbers. In the first part of the race, Nippo-Vini Fantini was in the break with Alessandro Malaguti.
Milan-Turin is the first of three races organized by RCS Sport and was a real battle between top riders looking for success. The winner was Diego Rosa (Astana) but there was also great satisfaction for Damiano Cunego who made a great performance against the top riders on the Superga climb. It was a top ten of great names, among them the #OrangeBlue leader in sixth position after a regular climb.
In the first part of the race, before the climb, a long escape with Alessandro Malaguti animated the race. The NIPPO Vini Fantini rider was among the protagonists in the big classic.
Damiano Cunego is happy, one day after his first top 10 in Tre Valli Varesine: “I’m happy about my approach to this Milano-Torino. Once again I was feeling good, and I used all my determination to be part of the best part of the race. Today I have decided to go up at a regular pace and with determination, it was a hard race as I like. Many people that had tried to escape finished behind, but not everyone. I want to congratulate Diego Rosa, he made a great action today and he deserved to win.”
“Yesterday in Tre Valli Varesine we tried three escapes and then we were there until the end with Damiano Cunego fighting for the podium," sports director Stefano Giuliani said. "Today it was a great action of Malaguti with a good escape that got 5 minutes of advantage. But the real action was the one of Damiano Cunego, again. The only rider of a Professional Continetal team in the top ten I think. He is our leader and he has to keep believing in what he can still do like in these two races. With this determination all the team can do many good things in this last month of racing."
