Damiano Cunego has started to prepare for next season. The NIPPO - Vini Fantini rider has joined his teammates at a training camp in Abruzzo and this weekend he participated in Event DGiraffa to try the casual wear for the upcoming season.
The Italian also took the opportunity to talk about these first days of the camp in an interview with Zonalocale.
"Things are going well. We came here for our first training camp of the season and we are working well,” he said. “There is a good group and we get along well. I chose this project when I signed a two-year contract. The first year was pretty good. The team is young and has grown. This year is another important year for me and for them to see if this project can go on and is growing. I think the team is good.”
"This is an Italian-Japanese team,” added Cunego. It is a team that is focused on Asia because the Olympics will be held in Tokyo in 2020 and we have a sponsor from Tokyo. They are working very well to grow young riders in time for that event and make the riders ready. We are also an Italian team taking part in events such as the Giro d’Italia and other races in Europe.”
As for his personal goals Cunego wants to do well in Italian races to fight for the overall Coppa Italia win:
"We still have to define the start of the season. Most likely we are going to do different races in the spring and then hope for an invitation to the Giro d’Italia. Both the team and I want me to be competitive in the races that count for the Coppa Italia. I have to be competitive in races like the Giro del Trentino, the Coppi and Bartali, Tre Valli Varesine and that kind of events."
