Thomas Damuseau was once again up in the thick of the action at the finish of stage four of the Vuelta a Burgos sprinting to sixth place. Tenth placed overall, Daan Olivier was also up there taking 13th.

The stage profile looked to favour the breakaways and a strong seven rider attack went clear to spend the majority of the race out front. The peloton behind though was keen to bring things back together before the finish and with just over 25km to go the race was back together.

Attacks came and went from here on but the race ended up coming back together in the final kilometres for a fast finish and it was Llyod Mondory (AG2R) who got to the line fastest on the day.

Daan managed to preserve his lead in the young rider’s classification.

After the stage, Thomas Damuseau gave his thoughts on the fourth stage.

“We wanted to get in the break today and Chad [Haga] and Lawson [Craddock] fought hard for this but they missed the one that stuck and so we focused on protecting Daan’s GC position and then for me in the sprint,” he said to the Giant website.

“The team were really strong once again today and when Astana split the bunch we were up there with four riders in a select front group. The finish was really tricky and we came into it a bit far back. Chad led it out but he had to go very early and I was then on my own with one kilometre to go and from here it was hard to do my sprint.”

“It was a good opportunity today and I know that I could have got a good result but sometimes the plan you make before a stage doesn’t always work out and you have to adapt. We were strong as a team and hopefully Chad and Lawson can get a nice result in tomorrow’s [today’s] time trial.”
