David Formolo will take part in the the Tour of Italy 2015. According to Velopro, Cannondale-Garmin decided to bet on the young italian rider for the first three-week races of the season.
"I learn this good news, when I was told that I would also classic. I am very happy. I will have to be at the side of Hesjedal to help and learn the job. I will give the best of myself", he explained in an interview for Gazzetta dello Sport. "Hesjedal won the Giro, he has experience. Fabrizio Guidi, our sporting director, has also it who won with Alberto Contador."
To prepare for the Giro d'Italia, the Venetian climber went to Faenza in order to meet a nutritionist: "I met the nutritionist who follows me since January. For me, power is essential in cycling because with small sacrifices you have big improvements. In fact, he is telling me that I may eat occasionally ice cream or pizza. But I'd rather not, at most a piece of bread. With the weight we have 66 kilos, I have 4.6% of fat mass. Maybe I could lose extra pounds, but the risk of losing muscle."
Before the Giro d'Italia, however, David Formolo had the opportunity to debut the Ardenne Classics, taking part in the Fleche and Liege-Bastogne-Liege. The result which comes out runner Cannondale-Garmin is definitely positive: "It was my first time in Belgium. I started to feel close to Martin and at Liege I found myself having to make the race. It was not easy to change I had a moment of uncertainty. I was hoping to keep the Saint-Nicolas, just 500 meters away from the top. But I did not arrive empty at the finish, as it felt to Lombardy in the last 30 km. It means that I grow. I also made mistakes in the last 20 km I had to stay later because with the wind side, I would do a lot less work."
