Davide Appollonio has been caught been found positive in a doping control. The Italian from Androni Giocattoli - Sidermec tested positive on June 14, 2015 for  the use of EPO according to an announcement from the UCI. The international federation has provisionally suspended the Italian who still had the right to get his B sample analyzed.

The positive sample was taken just after GP Kanton Aargau (1.HC, Junge 11) when Appollonio was tested out of competition. In the Tour of Slovenia (2.1, June 18-21),  the 26-year-old Italian sprinted to two top 10 results and won the points classification. Since the start of the year he has been riding for Androni Giocattoli - Sidermec after previous stints at Ag2r and Sky. The plan was for Appollonio to start the Romanian Sibiu Cycling Tour tomorrow.

All riders and technical staff of Androni Giocattoli - Sidermec have signed an agreement that could lead to a fine of one hundred thousand euros. "The rules state that in the case of a positive doping test a rider must pay a fine of € 100,000 plus compensation for any additional damages that the team will encounter," said manager Gianni Savio in December 2014.
