For the first time since 2009, Astana failed to win the Kazakh road race championships when Ilya Davidenok from their continental team took a surprise victory. In fact there were no Astana riders on the podium as Alexandre Sushemoin and Nurbolat Kulimbetov completed the podium.
A few days ago Astana failed to win the Kazakh TT championships and now they have also lost hold of the road race jersey. Instead it was one of the riders from their continental team that took the victory.
22-year-old Ilya Davidenok recommended himself for the Astana management when he took the title that was last held by Astana's Alexandr Dyachenko. Alexandre Sushemoin and Nurbolat Kulimbetov completed the podium in a race that ended as a failure for the major Kazakh team.
Dmitriy Fofonov was the last rider to deny Astana a home win when he won the title in 2009. One year later he rode in Astana colours.
Result:
1. Ilya Davidenok
2. Alexandre Sushemoin
3. Nurbolat Kulimbetov
