Jens Debusschere (Lotto-Belisol) crashed in the fifth stage of the Tour de Suisse yesterday.

Thirty kilometres before the finish the riders had to get out of the way of a bus that was parked at the side of the road. They had to go through a smaller part of the road, braked and a crash followed. Debusschere finished the stage and went to hospital afterwards, where a fracture of his right ulna was detected. It’s a clean and stable fracture. His arm will be in plaster for three to four weeks. In the meantime he will be able to train on the rolls if he lets his arm rest. According to the Lotto-Belisol team it’s too soon to say when he will get back in competition.

“I can’t change anything about it, unfortunately crashes are part of your life when you’re a cyclist,” Debusschere explained. “I was riding in the middle of the peloton when someone of the organization gave a sign that there was an obstacle. Some riders braked and crashed. I couldn’t go to the right or left anymore. I immediately felt something wasn’t right, but decided to finish the stage because the consequences might possibly not be that bad. I will take a complete rest the next few days and then I can already train on the rolls. That way I can maintain my condition.”
