Jens Debusschere (Lotto Belisol) continued his fantastic end of the season when he won the traditional season-ending race Nationale Sluitingprijs in his native Belgium. He won the final bunch sprint in a race that was dominated by a very aggressive showing by Argos-Shimano.
It took some time for Jens Debusschere to reveal the true extent of his potential as he struggled to obtain any major results during his first two years as a professional with the Lotto team. In the final part of the 2013 season, he has, however, finally shown that he is a great sprinter in the making and he ended the year on a high by winning the final race in Belgium, the Nationale Sluitingprijs.
After clinching his fourth win of the season, Debusschere instantly started looking to the future. “I’m very pleased that I have been able to demonstrate my true potential towards the end of this season,” the 24-year-old rider told the Belgian news agency Belga.
“With these results in the bag I feel ready for a great 2014,” Debusschere explained. “My main focus will be on the Spring Classics in my native country. In my judgement the parcours of the GP E3 Harelbeke and the Dwars door Vlaanderen are excellently suited to my characteristics as a rider.”
