John Degenkolb, who had to interrupt his training because of an accident during his camp in Calpe on January 23, has revealed on his personal Facebook page that he will not race the Spring classics. The German rider suffered a deep cut to his thigh and a nearly severed left index finger.
"The healing process is going very well and as expected. And yesterday I was also able to get on the trainer for the first time to get the circulation going", the former Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix winner wrote. "I am lacking nothing for rehab and physiotherapy. I am really happy with the care."
He hopes to be back in the peloton as soon as possible. "Anyone who knows my ambition, knows that I only want to be there if I can get a top result again. So, I prefer to use the time to completely heal all injuries."
The German was one of six Giant-Alpecin riders injured in the crash, along with Warren Barguil, Fredrik Ludvigsson, Ramon Sinkeldam, Max Walscheid and Chad Haga.
