John Degenkolb wants the Triple. After his victories in the spring classics Milan-Sanremo and Paris-Roubaix, the German will again go all out for victory in the spring.
"The classics are again the big goals. Sanremo, Roubaix and also the Tour of Flanders. To complete the triple would be a dream," he said in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.
After the team meeting in November, Degenkolb brought his original bike from Roubaix to his home. "The dirt is still ther, and I'll never wash it," said the classisc rider who became the second German cyclist after Josef Fischer (1896) to win the French race.
After his former teammate Marcel Kittel has left the Giant-Alpecin team, Degenkolb admits that he has mixed feelings. "Firstly, it is a situation that is not disadvantageous for me. On the other hand it is clear that we would have won more with Marcel. Therefore, I now have more pressure, also in the sprints. But first and foremost, I want to show myself in the classics - and the team will do the same," Degenkolb said.
Next Thursday, he and his team will be presented at the Italian Embassy in Berlin.
