More news have emerged regarding the training crash that brought down six Giant-Alpecin riders in Spain. John Degenkolb, Max Wahlscheid, Fredrik Ludvigsson, Ramon Sinkeldam and Chad Haga were hit by a vehicle on Saturday.
One rider is reportedly in serious condition but Degenkolb has now made it clear that he is relatively unscathed. On his Facebook page, he has posted a message in which he claims to be "alright, considering the circumstances". However, he was put under general anaesthesia to have wounds on his thigh, forearm and lip stitched up. He will travel to Valencia where doctors would try to reattach his left index finger.
Sources of the Emergency services have told daily Informacion that two 27-year-old have suffere "serious functional injuries", that a 21-year-old and a 27-year-old have suffered minor injuries and that an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old have "suffered contusions and polifracturas. Haga and Degenkolb are both 27 years old and reports are that Haga has been airlifted to a hospital in Sant Joan de Alacant. Barguil is 24 years old, Sinkeldam 26, Ludvigsson 21 and Wahlscheid 22 which means that the reports are inaccurate.
Barguil reportedly suffered a fractured wrist.
