John Degenkolb and Kristina Vogel are the German cyclists of the year. In the vote which was organized by the Radsport magazine for the 45th time, the readers secured a convincing victory for the Milan-Sanremo and Paris-Roubaix winner. Degenkolb scored 416 points, 129 more than quadruple Tour stage winner Andre Greipel. Third place went to Tony Martin (207) who won a stage in the Tour and wore the yellow jersey for two days.

In the women’s category track specialist Kristina Vogel won the title for the third time after 2012 and 2013. This year she was sprint world champion and vice-European champion in the team sprint. Vogel scored 347 points, significantly more than Lisa Brennauer (209). The defending champion won bronze in the time trial and gold in the team time trial with Velocio SRAM at the World Championships in Richmond. Marathon European champion Sabine Spitz (146) was third.

Leo Appelt is Junior Athlete of the Year. The 18-year-old was World Champion on the track and the road. Seven-time world and European champion Emma Hinze was named best junior athlete by the women.
