Thomas Dekker will try to set a new Hour Record at the end of February on the velodrome in the Mexican city of Aguascalientes at 2000 meters altitude.

Dekker's support team hopes that he can deliver an optimal performance at altitude. The 30-year-old Dutchman who is still without a team for 2015, is traininf hard for his attempt but an exact date has not been chosen.

The current world record is held by the Austrian Matthias Brändle. In October, he covered a distance of 51.8 kilometers. "In the meantime, there are still a few others who will make an attempt  but I can do it," he told RTV NH .

Dekker will attack the world record because he has had room to focus on his attempt since he left Garmin. "At the end of October I was told that I could not stay. At that time there were not many options left. I have a bad feeling about leaving cycling. This is still a nice goal."

The Australians Rohan Dennis and Jack Bobridge and Brit Alex Dowsett have all annonced Hour Record attempts that are scheduled for January and February. "It starts to live a bit again," he said.

Dekker does not exclude that his attack could signal the end of his cycling career."That might happen. I don't want to ride with a small team without a good program. That won't be enough to motivate me. I think I've been through too much for that."
