Arnaud Demare of the FDJ.fr took a second consecutive victory in the Tour de l’Eurometropole today after outsprinting Jens Debusschere of Lotto-Belisoll and Theo Bos of Team Belkin. Demare will then remain in the leader’s jersey.
And Demare himself is very excited about his second win in the same days, but he admits he still misses some final pace in the end of the stages.
"I am very happy with this win. I feel I have the strength, but I miss some pace. I benefited from a team 100% dedicated to the race. It ended with a great final, although it was sinuous. There has also been a fall that I managed to avoid. The team then took me well to the line,” Demare told Direct Velo.
Demare is optimistic about his chances of having the yellow jersey further on in the race due to his dominance in the sprint.
“There was not much wind today, even if it's something that does not necessarily bother me. This is part of the Belgian races. Today it has opened the race. There have been numerous attacks in the final. This victory also allows me to keep the leader's jersey by taking ten seconds bonus. Now I'll have to watch the second and third of General and cling in order to keep the yellow jersey,” Demare continued.
He also pointed out the queen stage of the race as Sunday’s stage. He will have an eye on the Russian team Tinkoff-Saxo.
“I think Sunday's stage will be decisive. It is very difficult with the mountains. But after the Mont Saint-Aubert, there is a long stretch where we can try to come back. It will be able to go or not to fast. The race is still open. We will see if the Saxo-Tinkoff team tries to take bonuses. Everyone knows that the ranking will play bonuses,” Demare finished.
