Unfortunate Stijn Devolder was certainly one of the biggest victims of the crash-marred Ronde van Vlaanderen 2014 edition, but also animated the brutal spectacle with his heroic chase of a main group following his two accidents, eager to dutifully support Fabian Cancellara in race’s finale. Luckily enough, the Trek Factory Racing leader managed to take the spoils without a certainly appreciated help of the Belgian champion, but it remains uncertain whether the latter would be able to line up at the Paris-Roubaix next Sunday
Currently in an excellent shape, Devolder was Trek’s second strong card to play in the Ronde van Vlaanderen last Sunday, but after suffering two crashes the Belgian champion was unable to transform this disposition into a satisfying result in the cobbled monument, nor to support his leader Cancellara in his victorious campaign.
According to the Belgian media, Devolder suffered from a painful elbow injury following his second collision with Klaas Lodewyck and his participation in both Scheldeprijs and Paris-Roubaix remains uncertain.
“Devolder has a severe bruise on the elbow,” Trek Factory Racing manager confirmed for nieuwsblad.be.
“Stijn trained today for an hour, but had experienced a lot of pain. Tomorrow another test is to be done. Afterwards, we will decide whether he can line up at the Scheldeprijs on Wednesday. We have to wait and see if he will be able to participate in Paris-Roubaix on Sunday too.”
