The Funvic team did not only have reason to celebrate in thefifth stage of the Tour de San Luis. The Brazilian Alex Diniz who finished second in the mountain stage two days ago and who was third overall, was unable to start the time trial due to gastroenteritis. Leader Dani Diaz (Funvic) has lost an important teammate. "I miss him," he said.
Diniz began to feel ill after the end of stage 4 and last night he had to go to the hospital. He was not feeling well but to stay in the race even signed the voluntary discharge.
However, Dr. Eduardo Jorge Stonemasons, head doctor of the Tour de San Luis, has not allowed him to continue as he finds that his condition had not improved enough to ride in the stifling heat that accompanied the riders throughout the day.
Diniz (1985) impressed in the 2013 Tour de San Luis when he won the stage to Mirador del Potrero and finished third behind Dani Diaz and Tejay Van Garderen, and ahead of Alberto Contador. In this edition, he was sixth in Mirador del Potrero and second on the Alto del Amago.
