Amalie Dideriksen (Denmark) claimed the win in junior women's road race at World Championships in Florence, Italy, earlier today. The 17-year-old Dane beat Anastasia Iakovenko (Russia) and Olena Demydova (Ukraine) into second and third after a three-up sprint to the finish line.
Dideriksen was part of a five-man breakaway group, and even though she repeatedly looked in danger of being dropped from the group on the ascents, she managed to cling on.
Before the dash to the line, the quintet had been reduced to a trio, and when the time came to decide matters, Dideriksen delivered a powerful sprint from behind to settle the score.
