Laurent Didier created a major surprise in the Luxembourgish TT championships when he beat his Trek teammate, defending champion Bob Jungels, by five seconds to claim the title. Ben Gastauer (Ag2r) was the only other WorldTour rider in the field and completed the podium.
Having recently finished third in the Criterium du Dauphiné time trial, Bob Jungels was the big favourite in today's Luxembourgish time trial championships where he lined up as the defending champion. However, his teammate Laurent Didier created a major surprise when he beat the youngster in a close battle.
The race took place in Mamer and only six riders took the start, with the Schleck brothers being the notable absentees. Didier put 5 second into Jungels to take his first ever title in the discipline while Ben Gastauer completed the podium, having lost 37 seconds to the new champion.
Jungels still has one title to defend as he is also the reigning road race champion. In that race, he will line up alongside Didier and the Schleck brothers to form what is clearly the strongest team in the race.
Result:
1. Laurent Dider 27.31
2. Bob Jungels +0.05
3. Ben Gastauer +0.37
4. Christian Helmig +0.50
5. Tom Thill
