Going into the penultimate turn in today's Tour de Suisse sprint, Silvan Dillier found himself in a good position on Mark Cavendish's wheel. When the Brit hit the deck, however, the youngster couldn't avoid going down himself and missed out on a likely top 10 finish in his big home race.

BMC Racing Team's Silvan Dillier was one of several riders involved in a crash near the finish line Wednesday at the Tour de Suisse. Dillier catapulted over his bike after colliding with other riders who fell ahead of him as the peloton made a 90-degree right turn inside the final 500 meters of the 183.6-kilometer race.

"I could not avoid it," Dillier said. "I hit the ground and then it was over. I am pretty OK. I was a little bit like a stunt man. My back hurts a little bit, but otherwise I am fine."

BMC Racing Team Sport Director Fabio Baldato said it was a shame the crash derailed Dillier's chances. 

"Danilo Wyss and Marcus Burghardt really helped Silvan in the final and he was in good position – on the wheel of Mark Cavendish – when Matthew Goss collided with Cavendish," Baldato said. "Without the crash, for sure we have a top 10 finish – maybe even top five."

Sacha Modolo (Lampre-Merida) took the win ahead of Stage 3 winner Peter Sagan (Cannondale Pro Cycling) and John Degenkolb (Team Giant-Shimano) was third. Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) retained the overall lead by six seconds over Tom Dumoulin (Team Giant-Shimano).
