In the absence of 10-time champion Fabian Cancellara, Silvan Dillier (BMC) took his first Polish time trial title when he won the race against the clock on the 39.4km course in Epalinges. The talented youngster beat Reto Hollenstein (IAM) and Steve Morabito (FDJ) into the minor podium positions.
Silvan Dillier confirmed that he is ready to take over from Fabian Cancellara when he took over the Trek captain's time trial in today's race aganst the clock. Cancellara had decided to skip the event to focus on the road race and this opened the door for Dillier to claim the title.
Dillier recently finished the Giro and he has come out strong from his first grand tour. He was impressive in the Tour de Suisse which he ended by finishing a solid 12th in the time trial.
Today he was the fastest on the 39.4km course despite being up against several IAM riders. The home team had to settle for second with Reto Hollenstein while Steve Morabito confirmed his great condition by taking third.
