The 107th edition of the Milano-Sanremo takes place this Saturday, 19 March. The first cycling monument of the 2016 season has all the makings of a great race and Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka are looking forward to being part of professional cycling's longest one-day classic.
It will be the 4th time the African Team take to the start of the Milano-Sanremo. "La Primavera", as it is known throughout Europe, has been a special race for the Team and the spring classic they have always performed well at over the years. Gerald Ciolek's victory in 2013 was the victory that introduced the world to the African Team and then in 2014 and 2015, Ciolek and Edvald Boasson Hagen ensured they had a top 10 result at both editions of the race.
Once again it will be the Cipressa and Poggio climbs that come after 269km and 285km where the race defining moves are expected to be made. Once the Poggio has been crested, riders will have just 6 kilometers before reaching the finish-line on Via Roma, making this year’s race 291km in total. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka will send its strongest ever team to the Milano-Sanremo with the victory once again being the prime objective for the African Team.
Edvald Boasson Hagen and former Milano-Sanremo winner Mark Cavendish will lead tje Dimension Data for Qhubeka team at this year’s edition of the event. South African Reinardt Janse van Rensburg showed last year he is also capable of being in the mix during the finale of Milano-Sanremo, and he will once again play a key role in the team's plans on Saturday. Steve Cummings, Serge Pauwels, Mark Renshaw, Nathan Haas and Jay Thomson will provide strong support to the protected riders and they complete the 8-rider roster.
Edvald Boasson Hagen said:
"I have been feeling good at Tirreno and I am looking forward to Milan-Sanremo on the weekend, we have a really strong team for the race. It is a difficult race to predict as there are so many scenarios that could play out. A number of riders are capable of winning on Saturday so we will try to do the best race possible and hopefully it works for us."
