A bunch sprint closed the 2015 edition of Tour of Qatar, giving the final stage victory to Sam Bennett and the overall classification success to NikiTerpstra.
765.9 m, a lot of wind and mountains of sands: these were the ingredients that the Arab race gave Lampre-Merida whose balance was not as expected: 10th and 11th place for Modolo in the 4th and in the 5th stage, 14th position for Ferrari in the 1st stage and 17th and 18th place for Pozzato and Plaza in the time trial. In the final stage, Modolo was 31st.
Sports director Philippe Mauduit explained: “Our target was to be regularly in the top in the stages but we did not achieve this goal because we faced difficulties in the approach to the final part of the stages despite the fact that our riders demonstrated stage after stage that they could race as a very united team. The riders gave their best, but we can of course do better."
Lampre-Merida will move to Oman where they will take part in the Tour of Oman. Rui Costa and Rafael Valls will take the place of Mario Costa and Maximilano Richeze, joining Matteo Bono, Roberto Ferrari, Sacha Modolo, Nelson Oliveira, Ruben Plaza and Filippo Pozzato.
The Tour of Oman will be the seasonal debut for Rui Costa.
