Androni Sidermec certainly deserved more than the tenth place finish by Davide Appollonio in the Giro d'Italia stage won by Nicola Boem.

Again the team led by Gianni Savio and Giovanni Ellena were on the attack and immediately after the start in Civitanova Marche, Oscar Gatto joined the 5-rider break that dominated the day. After winning the sprints in Santarcangelo and Cesena, Gatto was the victim of a puncture near the finish line in Forlì and was thus taken out of contention on a day when the break made it to the finish.

After the stage, team manager Gianni Savio said: "I want to congratulate the guys who followed the instructions given in the technical meeting and I want to pay a tribute to Oscar Gatto who was particularly unfortunate. Tomorrow we will attack again because we do not give up. We are inspired by the phrase of Erry De Luca: the invincible are those who never give up. "
