Bretagne failed to play a role in the fifth stage of the Tour de France which was again controlled by the big teams. Under the drizzling rain and gusts of Pas-de-Calais and Somme, the field was nervous and at km 110, a split left around 80 riders in front.
Three Bretagne-Séché Environnement made the selection but Florian Vachon was quickly ruled out due to a puncture. And 23 kilometers from the finish, Eduardo Sepulveda and Armindo Fonseca went down, caught up in a big crash. A little later, Sepulveda had to change bikes after his right brake caliper was broken. Fonseca had already gone back to pick up bottles just before the crash, had to wait longer. Only Sepulveda got back to the pack.
The other riders finished 14 minutes behind. Brice Feillu gritted his teeth after crashing alongside Nacer Bouhanni early in the stage. He hurt the left side, elbow and hip in particular, and complained of pain at the finish. Pierre-Luc Périchon spent: 90 kilometers alone in the lead early in the stage, after his companion Nicolas Edet had been instructed to wait after a few kilometers."
