Having abandoned the Tour de Suisse due to illness and injury, Bradley Wiggins is back on top. Today he conquered the British time trial championships, putting more than a minute into Sky teammate Geraint Thomas and defending champion Alex Dowsett (Movistar).
When illness and a crash forced him out of the Tour de Suisse, Bradley Wiggins made it clear that he would now return to Great Britain to recover for his next big goal which was the British time trial championships. Today he proved that his porr performance in the Swiss race are likely to have been caused by health issues and not poor condition when he firmly beat in-form specialists Geraint Thomas and Alex Dowsett in the battle for the national crown.
Wiggins covered the 42km course in Celtic Manor in a time of 53.56 to out 1.08 into Thomas while defending champion Dowsett finished 13 seconds further adrift. The win broke a three-year streak for the Movistar rider as Wiggins took back the title he last held in 2010.
It is still unknown whether Wiggins will make use of his good form in the Tour de France as the Sky roster has still not been announced. In case he is omitted he is likely to turn his attention to the track for the Commonweath Games.
