Double US champion in 2011 and 2015 Matthew Busche will not take his third title in 2017. Not offered a new contract by the UnitedHealthcare team, the American has decided to end his professional career that began in 2009 at Kelly Benefit Strategies. 

Busche moved to the WorldTour with Radishack after one year with his first team and stayed there for six years. Unfortunately, the lack of results and several injuries have not allowed him to continue in the elite ranks. After a difficult year in the United States this season, he has finally decided to hang up the bike.

Contacted by VeloNews, Busche explained that the idea about retirement came while he was looking for a new contract. He made the decision fairly quickly despite being offered a chance in another team. He is still uncertain about what he will do in the future.

Busche leaves cycling with two national titles and a stage victory in the 2015 Tour of Alberta. Known as a climber, he has been on the podium in the 2010 Tour of Denmark and the 2012 Tour of Utah.
