Omega Pharma-Quick-Step riders Tony Martin and Michal Kwiatkowski had 28" and 19" to close on the GC in the final 34.8 km stage 4 Volta Algarve time trial on Sunday, and the UCI World TT Champion Martin and the young, strong Polish rider Kwiatkowski both faced up to the challenges facing them.
Martin won the final time trial by more than one minute with a time of 45'09", after also blazing through the intermediate time in the fastest time. Kwiatkowski, who was second at the intermediate point, was behind his teammate but ahead of everyone else with a time of 46'16".
Those times were enough to secure first and second place in the stage for the team, and for good measure Martin also won the overall.
