Owain Doull, currently riding with Team Wiggins, has confirmed he will be riding in the WorldTour for 2017 and 2018. He has opted to remain with his current team for 2016 as they are giving him the chance to ride on the road as well as prepare on the track for the Rio Olympics.

“It’s almost like I’ve deferred for a year so I can do the track properly and carry on with team Wiggins for 2016. After that I’ll stop the track for the foreseeable future and focus on the road, and see how far I can get with that,” Doull told Cyclingnews.

“Not many people want to allow you to have a year out to do the track, so it was kind of a case of getting the right team for that. I’m really fortunate to be in a strong position in that I know what I’m doing until 2018, which is quite nice.”

Doull says that once he is a pro rider, he really wants to ride the Classics, although he appreciates that as a neo-pro he needs to taste  wide variety of races to see what suits him.

“Personally, the Classics are the races I’d like to do – I’d probably see myself more as one-day rider," he said. "Obviously I’ll be a neo pro, so I’ll do a mix of races and find out what races suit me as a pro. At U23 level they [one-day] were the races I was better at but it might be completely different at a higher standard.”
