Yesterday Team Belkin dominated the finale of the first stage of the Tour of Oman before delivering sprinter Barry Markus to 7th but today there was no luck for the Dutch team. The team lacked organization in the finale and when Markus had been positioned on the wheel of André Greipel, the German sprinter dropped his chain.
 

The second stage of the Tour of Oman ended in disappointment for the Belkin Pro Cycling Team. Thanks to good work of the team, Barry Markus finished seventh in yesterday’s opening stage, but despite the Dutchman's confidence, he was unable to get in the mix today. Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) won the bunch sprint for the stage. 

“It was a hard sprint,” said Markus, who was brought to the wheel of yesterday’s winner André Greipel by team-mate Jetse Bol in the final kilometres. “But when Greipel accelerated, his chain flew off. Nonetheless, I was still too far behind to do a normal sprint.” 
 

Sports Director Jan Boven was disappointed with the performance in the final kilometres. 

“Robert Wagner is a key man for our lead-out and he punctured with four kilometres to go, but that's no excuse. It just wasn’t our day. We were not good enough to stay organised in the sprint even though we did an excellent job on that yesterday.” 

Robert Gesink, the Belkin Pro Cycling Team’s man for the general classification, survived stage two without problems. Tomorrow he faces the first serious test of the week. 

“The last 25 kilometres are up and down with a lot of corners,” said Boven. “It’s important that Robert starts the final in the front."
