The 4 Days of Dunkerque certainly proved a demanding task for Team Colombia-Coldeportes’ guys, and the its conclusion on Sunday May 10th (Cappelle La Grande-Dunkerque, 171 km) did nothing but mirror the trend of a whole race in which the Escarabajos bagged less than they wished and expected. The predictable sprint finish crowned Edward Theuns (Topsport-Vlaanderen) over Bryan Coquard (Europcar) and Danilo Napolitano (Wanty-Gobert), while Leonardo Duque was drawn out of contention when the race entered on the final circuit, as he dropped off his bike due to sickness.
Early on, Brayan Ramirez had tried to get into a breakaway attempt in his tough pursuit for the best climber’s jersey, but the peloton let another 8-man attempt go, keeping it under control and finally catching it in due time for the sprinters’ teams to set up the finish. In the finale, Fabio Duarte also tried to get out of the bunch, but was left very little space from the peloton.
Starting from Wednesday May 13th, Colombia-Coldeportes will be in Germany to take in their next fixture, Bayern Rundfahrt.
