Today in the UAE the 2.HC stage race Dubai Tour ended. The 4th and final 123 km stage was held in Dubai and finished near the tallest building in the world – the famous skyscraper Burj Khalifa.
"It was the first race in the season for the riders from this roster, so the main thing for us was to get some racing experience and to try to show something with Aleksandr Porsev in flat stages. I think we succeeded. We knew it could be hard to fight for the general classification and to have a rider in Top-10 because of the specific profile. However, Katusha was active and we had Alex who was really in action during the sprinters’ stages. Twice he was close to the podium. In general this race was very useful for the riders and I expect more confidence and results from them in next races. I also think it was a good race for Alex Porsev. He saw he can do it and it will bring him a lot of confidence for the coming races too," said head sports director José Azevedo.
The final stage ended with the bunch sprint, won by Mark Cavendish from Etixx – Quick Step, who outsprinted Italian Elia Viviani from Sky and Spanish rider Juan José Lobato from Movistar. Aleksandr Porsev from Team Katusha was 18th.
Mark Cavendish became the final overall winner of the Dubai Tour. Second place was for John Degenkolb from Giant-Alpecin (+0.06), while Juan José Lobato completed the final podium with the third position (+0.10). Eduard Vorganov is the best Katusha rider in GC with a 16th place overall (+0.26).
