After a successful first edition, the Dubai Tour has been confirmed on the UCI calendar for 2015. The race will be upgraded from 2.1 to 2.HC status, meaning that more ProTeams can participate in the event.
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Management Committee, held in conjunction with the 2014 UCI Road World Championships in Ponferrada, Spain, has confirmed the dates of the next edition of Dubai Tour, which will take place from 4th to 7th February 2015. It will be organised by the Dubai Sports Council in partnership with RCS Sport.
The same Committee has decided to reclassify the stage race from category 2.1 in the UCI Asia Tour calendar to category 2.HC (above categorization, from French hors catégorie) in the same calendar.
This change is an important moment for the young stage race, in its second edition, because the maximum number of UCI ProTeams that can participate in the race has increased from 50% to 70% of the field.
The 2015 edition is now ready to be even more spectacular and full of champions than the 2014 race, which saw Taylor Phinney (BMC Racing Team) win the General Classification, with the sprinter Marcel Kittel (Team Giant-Shimano) taking three stages.
