After his abandonment from the Giro d'Italia, Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Alpecin) returned with a bang by winning his second Dutch TT Championships in commanding fashion. The 2014 champion beat Jos van Emden (LottoNL-Jumbo) by 34 seconds while defending champion Wilco Kelderman was 1.18 behind in third.

Having taken his first time trial title in 2014, Tom Dumoulin was surprisingly beaten by Wilco Kelderman at last year's Dutch Championships. Today he was back in his home country to try to take back the coveted Dutch jersey and he left no doubt after his status as the leading time trialist from the country.

Dumoulin has just returned from an altitude training camp following his premature withdrawal from the Giro and he proved that he is back on track for the Tour de France and the Rio Olympics. The Giant-Alpecin rider covered the flat 50km course in Middelharnis in 59.04 which was 34 seconds better than Jos van Emden who had to settle for second after two consecutive third places. Kelderman lost his title as he could only manage third on a day when LottoNL-Jumbo had three riders in the top 4 as Steven Lammertink was fourth. Wout Poels (Sky) finished 6th behind Bob Schoonbrodt (3M)

The attention now turns to the Sunday's road race where Niki Terpstra will be unable to defend his title due to a knee injury. Dumoulin will skip the road race too.
